Stony Brook University
Dr. Laura Lindenfeld is Executive Director of the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University. Under her leadership, the Center has become a global leader in science communication training, reaching tens of thousands of scientists, researchers, and health professionals worldwide. Through the Alda Method®, professionals learn to listen deeply, speak clearly, and connect authentically with decision-makers and the public.

A scholar, advisor, and keynote speaker, Dr. Lindenfeld shapes how institutions, policymakers, and the public think about the future of science communication. Her most recent book, Science Communication for Scientists (Routledge 2025), is the first open-access textbook of its kind in the field. In 2025, she launched the SUNY Research Leadership Academy, expanding the reach of the Alda Method® across the SUNY system.

Dr. Lindenfeld believes that when trust is hard to earn and the world is moving fast, clear and empathetic communication is not just a soft skill. It is the work itself. She trains scientists and leaders to build the kind of trust that makes their expertise matter beyond their field.
