Carine Boustany is the US Innovation Unit Site Head and Global Head of Immunology and Respiratory Diseases Research at Boehringer Ingelheim. In this dual role, Carine is accountable for building and advancing the Research portfolio of immune and respiratory diseases and leads multifunctional teams in the US and Germany. Carine was previously the US Site Head of Development and built during that time a new organization, Development Sciences, aimed at driving sustainability, patient centricity, and external innovation in drug development. Carine also headed the US department of Cardiometabolic Diseases Research where she was responsible for delivering innovative therapies to improve the lives of patients suffering from NASH and CKD. Under her leadership, the team built a portfolio of first in class molecules, several of which are currently in clinical testing. Prior to joining Boehringer Ingelheim in 2011, Carine was a researcher at Pfizer where she led project teams in diabetes and diabetic nephropathy, including the biology of ertugliflozin, Steglatro®. Carine was also an Assistant Professor at the Lebanese International University and at the Holy Spirit University, in Lebanon, prior to joining Pfizer. Carine's education includes a PharmD degree from Saint-Joseph University (Beirut, Lebanon), followed by a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the College of Pharmacy at the University of Kentucky (Lexington, Kentucky), and a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Kentucky. Carine served as a board member of BIO, BioCT, and the IQ consortium.
