Hongxia Wang, PhD
Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center
Professor Hongxia Wang is a distinguished medical oncologist who serves as the Director of the Medical Oncology Department at Shanghai Cancer Center, Fudan University, and holds dual leadership roles as Deputy Director of the Phase I Clinical Research Center and Director of the Cell and Gene Therapy Center. Recognized for her significant contributions to precision medicine and oncology, Professor Wang has dedicated her career to the development of novel anti-tumor agents, translational research, and precision targeted therapies.
In her capacity as a key leader in early clinical trials, Professor Wang oversees a multidisciplinary team of over 120 specialists. Her research spans a broad spectrum of early-phase clinical development trials. As a principal investigator, she has directed numerous Phase I–III clinical trials and investigator-initiated studies across a range of solid tumors, evaluating new drugs and therapeutic technologies with the goal of translating scientific insights into clinical practice.
To advance the clinical translation of novel drugs and cell and gene therapies, Professor Wang has also spearheaded translational research initiatives. She has established state-of-the-art platforms including patient-derived organoids, liquid biopsy, and single-cell/multi-omics profiling, and built a translational research team of nearly 100 members. These efforts aim to address gaps in clinical management and foster therapeutic innovation. Her work focuses on understanding sensitivity and resistance to immunotherapies and targeted therapies, optimizing patient selection, refining combination strategies, and identifying predictive biomarkers for cancer recurrence and prognosis.
Professor Wang has authored more than 60 scientific publications in prestigious international journals such as The Lancet, Cell Research, Nature Cell Biology, Cancer Discovery, Science Translational Medicine, Nature Communications, Science Advances, and PNAS. She has filed 20 national patents and one PCT patent. In addition, she has led or participated in six expert consensus projects that provide guidance for precision oncology and serves as an editorial board member for several renowned peer-reviewed journals.
