Caius Radu, MD, is Professor in the Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology and Vice-Chair of the Department of Nuclear Medicine and Theranostics at UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine, where he directs the Cancer Molecular Imaging, Nanotechnology, and Theranostics (CMINT) program at the UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. His research seeks to define how nucleoside metabolism and nucleic acid chemistry regulate immune function and to translate these mechanisms into precision immunotherapies for cancer. His laboratory has uncovered fundamental links between nucleotide metabolism and immune signaling and translated these discoveries into molecular imaging agents and targeted metabolic therapies that have advanced to clinical studies. Building on this work, his group developed a combinatorial RNA–lipid nanoparticle (RNA-LNP) vaccine platform that enables independent control of innate immune activation and antigen delivery. His current research focuses on engineering RNA chemistry to direct innate immune sensing, generate potent antitumor T-cell immunity, and advance programmable RNA vaccines toward clinical translation.
