Taha Merghoub, PhD
Deputy Director, Meyer Cancer Center; Margaret and Herman Sokol Professor of Oncology Research
Weill Cornell Medicine
Dr. Taha Merghoub is Deputy Director of the Meyer Cancer Center at Weill Cornell Medicine and the Margaret and Herman Sokol Professor of Oncology Research. He is also Professor of Pharmacology and Immunology. He earned degrees from the University of Algiers and the University of Paris, where his research on fetal hemoglobin genetics provided insight into sickle cell disease and thalassemia.
He completed postdoctoral training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where he studied gene regulation and leukemia models, before joining the Alan Houghton Laboratory to focus on tumor immunity. He developed melanoma mouse models that mirror human disease and used them to evaluate immunotherapies across stages of tumor progression. Dr. Merghoub later held leadership roles at MSK, including directing a research laboratory and contributing to melanoma and immunotherapy programs. In 2022, he joined Weill Cornell Medicine, where he directs a translational tumor immunology lab. His research focuses on immune-based cancer therapies and the mechanisms of melanoma and immune responses across cancers.
