Dr. Baaten is a cellular immunologist with deep expertise in T cell biology, cancer immunotherapy, and infectious disease, spanning academia and industry. He earned a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the Royal Veterinary College, London, UK, before completing post-doctoral fellowships in immunology at the Edward Jenner Institute, UK, and the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center, San Diego, USA. Dr. Baaten was a faculty member at the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute where his lab made foundational contributions to understanding cellular immunity at mucosal surfaces, tumor–stroma interactions, and age-associated inflammation. He currently is a Senior Director in the Oncology Research Unit at Pfizer leading where he leads a multidisciplinary team developing next-generation T cell engagers and immuno-oncology therapies from target discovery through early clinical development. Dr. Baaten is an experienced biopharma leader, actively shaping external partnerships, translational programs, and scientific direction through advisory boards, consortia, and high-impact publications.
