Sheila received her Ph.D. from M.I.T. with Michael Marletta studying liver drug metabolism and pharmacology. She then did her postdoctoral training with Robert Lefkowitz at Duke University, after which she joined the faculty, being awarded tenure. Before joining Vanderbilt, her lab was at the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute in Orlando FL that was focused on obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
